Kwamé Ba, Also known as ‘Fényan’ Is a pianist and dancer from Martinique , based in France. Deeply connected to his Caribbean cultural heritage and Senegalese roots, he first made a name for himself as a dancer. From a very young age, he developed a passion for Afro-descendant music and dances, and quickly won some of the most prestigious House dance competitions, including Juste Debout and Summer Dance Forever. He soon became an international reference in improvisation within the Hip Hop dance scene.
His passion for composition later led him to co-found the group Oswéla, with
whom he performed at venues and festivals such as Jazz à Vienne, New Morning and La Petite Halle de la Villette. He also composes for dance companies , as well as advertising campaigns for brands including Westfield and Flaneurz.
Kwamé Ba’s compositions blend infectious rhythms with harmonies that are
both modern and sophisticated, while always focusing on the story being told.
His distinctive musical identity has brought him to perform on stages both in
France and internationally. , notably at Jazz Cafe in London and Paradiso in
Amsterdam.
At the age of 26, Kwamé Ba released his debut album ‘Douvan Douvan’ under
the alias ‘Fényan’ in December 2023. This project further established his
presence within the jazz scene and reflected his deep connection to
improvisation, both as a pianist and as a dancer in his concerts.
